Overview
This is a request for interested SOFT community members to submit Soft DAO Delegate Statements.
What
If you are a SOFT token holder, delegations will as follows (per related Soft DAO governor, token, and vesting contracts):
- Delegation is required. You must delegate your votes — either to yourself or another address — to participate in token holder governance.
- Delegation only impacts voting power. All other token holder rights and functionalities are retained by the token holder (e.g., ownership, ability to claim, swaps, etc.).
- Each contract/wallet holding a SOFT balance requires a separate delegation. For example, if you have unclaimed SOFT in a claims contract and hold SOFT directly, then you must delegate on both of those contracts.
- No partial delegations. In other words, you cannot split the voting power of a SOFT balance in your wallet or a vesting contract across multiple delegates. This is a technical limitat
- Delegations can be changed at any time. However, voting power for a given proposal is determined by the delegation at the time a proposal’s snapshot is taken.
- Delegate to any Ethereum wallet. There are no restrictions.
- 2x voting power for unclaimed tokens. All tokens in claims contracts — regardless of their vesting status — bestow 2x voting power on their beneficiaries. Any tokens removed from the contract (i.e., claimed) lose this multiplier.
- Delegations are native on-chain. Although Soft DAO’s compliance provider will provide an interface for managing delegations, the delegation functionality is native on-chain.
- Delegated voting power automatically adjusts. For example, if you delegate the voting power related to 500 SOFT tokens in your wallet and then send half the tokens to a different wallet, then the voting power of your delegate will automatically adjust accordingly.
Why
As noted earlier, the architecture of Soft DAO’s smart contracts require SOFT token holders to delegate their voting power, either to themselves or another address. However, beyond this technical requirement, the existence of trusted delegates is a value-add for the SOFT community. This is true for multiple reasons, including but not limited to the following:
- Trusted representatives encourage a broader community. Many new community members want to participate in governance and have a vested interest in Soft DAO. However, such individuals may also feel unable to keep pace with rapid developments or too new to understand nuances in governance. In such cases, trusted representatives can assist by making day-to-day decisions on their behalf — even as token holders retain overseer powers.
-
Delegates increase the efficiency & expertise of governance discussions. It is not possible for every person in the community to remain highly informed on all topics, at all times. Furthermore, governance discussions that require informing and engaging thousands of individuals voices are less efficient. The existence of trusted delegates ameliorates these issues.
- NOTE: no governance is perfect. However, many high-functioning governance structures (e.g., USA) operate as democratic republics rather than direct democracy for this reason.
- Delegations provide a path for individuals with less voting power to act collectively. By the power of delegation, individuals can more easily rally around a particular issue and collectively achieve enough voting power to propose and/or approve important proposals.
How
The primary purpose of this RFP is to provide a transparent and clear structure for individuals to broadcast their interests in serving as delegates. Therefore, if you are interested in receiving voting power from SOFT community members and serving as a Soft DAO delegate, please submit responses to this forum topic in the following format.
